Alexandra Corps Embraces Season of Creation

Alexandra Corps Embraces Season of Creation

Throughout September and into October, the Alexandra Corps joined with churches across Aotearoa in observing the Season of Creation—an annual celebration that invites Christians to renew their relationship with God and all of creation. This year, the corps reaffirmed its commitment to being an Eco Church, embracing the theme of Peace with Creation

As part of this, the Kids Church launched a new initiative to reduce food waste by establishing a worm farm. The farm, along with worms were generously donated by local suppliers. Food scraps are now kept in a dedicated bin, and the children check on the worms and feed them each week.

The Season of Creation included an annual planting day at Alexandra Community Gardens, also known as Eden Gardens, which is run by The Salvation Army. More than 50 members of the community came together to plant this year’s crops and enjoy a sausage sizzle.

The Season of Creation celebrations concluded on a high note with a special ‘Church in the Gardens’ service, held in partnership with fellow Eco Church members from Alexandra, Clyde, Lauder Union Parish. The outdoor gathering featured a time of worship, a hands-on prayer activity, a scavenger hunt for the children and the planting of an almond tree gifted by the Union Parish, all followed by a shared morning tea.
