End of an Era in Hamilton
Long-serving bandmaster Stewart Stanbridge recently retired at Hamilton City Corps. Two events celebrated Stewart’s 36 years of service: a concert on Saturday 19 October, followed by a ceremony as part of the Sunday service the following day. Stewart was presented with a certificate acknowledging his dedication and hard work by Chief Secretary Colonel Gerry Walker and was celebrated by friends and family.
Stewart recalls many highlights over the years, including opportunities to travel to both Tonga and California as bandmaster, and his involvement in setting up the National Youth Band. Locally, Stewart describes playing every Sunday morning at Waikato Hospital as an impactful ministry.
‘We get great feedback about the band uplifting both patients and hospital staff,’ says Stewart.
Stewart looks forward to getting out and doing some more fishing in his retirement, but also intends to continue supporting the Junior Band at Hamilton City Corps. He confidently passes the leadership of the band to new bandmaster Logan Bracegirdle, who he has known for many years. ‘I am leaving the band in good shape and in good hands,’ shares Stewart.
