Gavin Baxter Completes Remarkable Journey for Foodbanks
After nearly seven months on the road, retired Salvation Army officer Major Gavin Baxter has completed his Marching for Meals journey from Bluff to Cape Reinga, raising awareness and over $30k for Salvation Army foodbanks. Beginning on New Year’s Day, Gavin walked the length of Aotearoa New Zealand, meeting communities and highlighting the growing demand for food support amid the cost-of-living crisis. The challenge included a medical evacuation from remote South Island backcountry after he became unwell, but following treatment and rest he resumed the walk and reached Cape Reinga on 24 July. Funds raised will help support Salvation Army foodbanks nationwide.
