Get Away with the Word

Get Away with the Word

By Major Litiana Cola

Recently, women officers from the Fiji Division gathered at the Nasau Resort in Nadi for a transformative spiritual retreat. The theme was ‘Gentleness’, led by the inspiring Territorial Secretary for Personnel Captain Pauleen Richards. The retreat was a powerful blend of prayer, meditation and shared testimony.

Pauleen delivered the Word with conviction, challenging attendees to embrace gentleness in their lives. As women yoked to Christ Jesus, we discovered that gentleness wasn’t a weakness but a strength—a quality that connects us to our humble Friend, visionary Teacher and loving Master.

The retreat unfolded with grace. Women immersed themselves in the Bible, seeking wisdom and guidance. They prayed, meditated and shared their personal stories, finding the concept of gentleness deeply convicting. It was a day of reflection, growth and renewed purpose.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the retreat took a joyful turn. The evening was named ‘Ketekete’, a Fijian term that signifies celebration. Talents and skills were on display—colourful dresses on display and heartfelt songs and laughter filled the air. It was a reminder that gentleness isn’t just internal; it spills over into our interactions and celebrations.

Appreciation for young officers

Amidst the spiritual moments, the young officers added their vibrant energy. They enjoyed the resort’s pools, engaged in volleyball and created lasting bonds within their groups. Not a single person was left out; everyone participated wholeheartedly in these three days of retreat. Their enthusiasm and camaraderie enriched the experience for all.

But let us not forget the journey itself. For the seniors, especially those from eastern Fiji, it was an adventure. Singing and laughter echoed as belongings flew out of the bus, landing in road potholes or rainwater pools. Undeterred, the seniors—still youthful at heart—jumped off the bus to retrieve their items. Their determination didn’t waver, they were on a quest for fellowship. Whether they travelled by minibus, boat or plane, the anticipation of wonderful moments awaited them.

Lasting memories

As the retreat concluded, emotions ran high. Saying goodbye to Captain Pauleen Richards was particularly difficult. Her powerful words had left an indelible mark on our hearts. But as we bid farewell, we carried the spirit of gentleness with us, along with memories of laughter, shared moments and the blessings of fellowship.

For the women officers of Fiji Division, the spiritual retreat was a beautiful tapestry of faith, fellowship and gentleness. May the memory of this retreat continue to inspire and empower all who attended.

May God bless all the ladies who made this retreat unforgettable.
