Braving Our Burdens
I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket.—Psalm 81:6
This verse is a reminder that God understands when life feels difficult and overwhelming. He was speaking to the people of Israel, reminding them that He had rescued them from slavery in Egypt. Their lives had been filled with hard work, heavy responsibilities and little freedom. God stepped in, removed those burdens and gave them a new beginning.
Although we don’t face the same circumstances, we all carry burdens of different kinds. These may include work pressures, family responsibilities, health concerns, financial challenges or feeling overwhelmed by everything that needs to get done. At times, these demands can feel exhausting and leave us wondering how we will keep going.
What I love about this verse is that it shows that God is aware of the pressures we face. He sees the worries and concerns that others might not notice. Rather than trying to manage everything on our own, God invites us to bring our struggles to Him. We are not expected to carry every burden by ourselves. God offers support, strength and guidance when we need it.
This verse also encourages us to remember the ways God has helped us in the past. Most of us can think of situations that seemed impossible at the time but eventually worked out. There may have been times when God provided what was needed, gave us strength during a difficult time or opened opportunities that we weren’t expecting. Looking back on
those experiences can help build our confidence and trust in Him as we face present challenges, as well as giving us hope for the future.
Psalm 81:6 doesn’t suggest that life will always be easy or free from challenges. Difficulties are a normal part of life. However, it does remind us that we don’t face them alone. God is present in every season, encouraging us and helping us. When we place our trust in Him, we can find reassurance that He understands our burdens and will give us the strength we need to live each day with hope and confidence.
