Promotion to Glory

We have been advised of the promotion to Glory of Major Joyce Langdon on Monday 19 June 2023, from Waitakere Hospital, aged 80 years.

Joyce Mary Langdon was born in Waihi on 23 May 1943. Joyce entered The Salvation Army Training College in 1969 from Waihi Corps as a cadet in the ‘Undaunted’ Session. Following her commissioning on 16 January 1971 Joyce was appointed as Assistant Officer, Wellington Residential Nursery. This was followed by Territorial Headquarters appointments with Joyce appointed as: Finance Officer, Wellington-Aro Street Training College (1972); Secretary, Field Department (1977); Secretary, Office of the Chief Secretary (1980); and Private Secretary, Office of the Territorial Commander (1984). It is from this appointment that Joyce retired on 31 May 2008. In retirement Joyce continued as Private Secretary to the Territorial Commander for the following 12 months.  

We honour Major Joyce Langdon for her deep faith and quiet spirit, a conscientious woman of God who influenced many as they worked alongside her. Please uphold Joyce’s siblings: Mary, June, Margaret, Barry, Pamela and Roy (deceased), along with extended family in your prayers in this time of grief and loss.

Bereavement

We have been advised that Cadet Tania Viljoen’s father passed away from hospital, in Pretoria, South Africa on Wednesday 6 July 2023.

We ask you to uphold Cadet Tania Viljoen (who will not be going back for the funeral), her daughters Emma and Lee, her brother Jaco, who was her father’s carer in South Africa, and other family members in your prayers during this time of grief, loss and separation.

International Appointments and Promotions

Effective 1 September 2023: Lt Colonel Michelle Collins currently serving as Territorial Secretary for Communications has been appointed as Director: SASIA SALT Learning Centre – South Asia Zone, International Headquarters (located in Sri Lanka). Lt Colonel Milton Collins currently serving as Territorial International Development and Support Secretary has been appointed as Development Secretary, and Sponsorship Secretary (additional appointment), Territorial Headquarters (located in Sri Lanka). Please pray for Lt Colonels Michelle and Milton Collins as they prepare for their international service appointments.

Effective 1 September 2023: Majors Garth And Suzanne Stevenson, officers of the New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa Territory currently serving respectively as Principal/Training Principal and Assistant Principal/Assistant Training Principal, Booth College of Mission in that territory, are appointed as Chief Secretary and Territorial Secretary for Women’s Ministries, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands Territory. They will take up their new appointment responsibilities with the rank of lieut-colonel.

Appointment – International College for Officers 2025

We are pleased to announce the Chief of the Staff has approved the appointment of the following officers below from the New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa Territory to the International College for Officers:

May God bless Captain Faye Molen, Captain Shive Ram, Major Vakatoto Wawa and Captain Shane Healey as they begin preparations for attending the International College for Officers in 2025. We pray that the experience will enrich them spiritually and give them encouragement.

Conclusion of Envoy Service

Effective 31 July 2023: the Territorial Commander announces the early conclusion of Envoy service of Envoy Wi Pirihi, due to a change in family responsibilities. Wi Pirihi was warranted as an Envoy on 2 November 2020 and appointed as Community and Corps Pastoral Care Leader, Whangārei Corps. We thank Envoy Wi Pirihi for his Envoy service and pray God’s blessing on him as takes on the sole care of his newborn mokopuna.
